So you’re wondering how to get the virus on tiktok, huh? Well, I do not blame you! It is a social media platform that everyone can not stop talking about, and the app has seen tremendous growth since its introduction of private. It is no longer a place for teenagers to make silly dances and lips, but a community where people of all ages share a variety of interiors on anything from goofy dog movies, to life as in space, to a way to sell a bobby pin house. Any type of content can be successful on stage, which is part of what makes it fun.
The first thing you need to know is that in the current context, tiktok is a meritocracy that gives each video a chance by showing it to a small audience on the For You Page (FYP). Yes, even if you have 0 followers. If your video does well with this small group, tiktok will continue to publish it to as many people as they think they will like. Because of this, you can usually talk in the first hour or two if you have an infected video on your hands.
While joining tiktok three months ago, I personally have had over 14 Million video views in the last 30 days, which is why I am here to help you learn the basics of tiktok. I spent the last 4 years researching social media analytics and organic growth trends.
Contents
1. Play your video by tapping
Tiktok is a fast-paced app where you have to catch people’s attention quickly before deleting your video to see more content. If there is no action to the end, most people do not look. Set the tone and title of the video within the first few seconds for people to understand what they are seeing.
2. When deciding on a video length, keep it as short as possible
Unless you are telling a long story that requires a full minute of video, I recommend keeping your pieces short and up to date. Tiktok looks at the average length of the viewing period compared to the video length as a way to analyze the type. You can have people watching eight seconds of a 12-second video instead of 48 seconds-long.
3. Record your own audio
Listen, we all know that our phones and apples have the power to hear what we are saying, and to make decisions (i.e. Show us ads) based on that audio. Tiktok wants to show the content to a specific audience and will use all the tools you provide to learn what your video is, and show it to real people. You can do this in your caption or hashtag, which I will fix later, but by using voiceover on your video, you are giving them more and more keywords and information about what your video is so they can display yours. Satisfaction for the actual audience.
4. Use trending music or lyrics
Whether you consider doing voiceover or not, it is always appropriate to include music that moves in your videos. You can actually choose your own songs, but tiktok is a social platform where people feed style, so it is only a matter of chance that you will do well if you use the songs that are happening. Always put the song quietly in the background with a voiceover again.
*Pro-Tip* If you want to use your own song, and tiktok does not allow it, you can simply upload it with your audio, select a song, and set the second song to 0 volume.
5. Tell a story
Yes, play can go method for boosting your video, but issues often do. Let’s be real, unless you are a player with amazing talent or bad, your gaming videos can’t go viral on tiktok. For us ordinary people who have not been blessed by the gods of thunder, we can go viral by telling an interesting and compelling story. The issue can be anything. It can be an interesting event in your life, something that happened during your day, a plan you made, anything. Just tell a story, and save this plan as soon as possible.
People also like to learn on tiktok, so if you have expertise in any subject, create informative videos to help people learn more about it. Quick bullet point videos work well for these, with colors on the screen guiding the user through a small tutorial. As such, people like to shop at tiktok, so sharing your favorite products is also an amazingly easy way to gain traction (and make money).
7. Always have a strong call to action
I think this is probably one of the most important things that not only help make the video go viral but also help you grow your following. What are the best 5 Million views on video if you only get 2000 followers from it? First of all, if tiktok sees a lot of people commenting, liking, or following a video, they will push themselves out of the crowd.
Because of this, it is good to have a call to action in your caption and/or at the end of your video such as “like for part 2”, “follow more”, or “don’t let this flop”. You obviously have to have video compelling to do this job, but adding a solid CTA on video can be the difference between 2M views with 2K new followers and 9M views with 40k new followers. I recommend that your CTA take a few seconds longer so that people have time to follow you before moving on to the next video.
